Butterfly Nails

Butterflies are beautiful, there is no denying that and the Monarch butterfly is particularly striking so I'm going to have a go at creating them on my nails

You will need:

Base coat - Essence Studio Nails 24/7
Yellow - OPI I Just Can't Cope-acabana
Light Orange - OPI Where Did Suzi's Man-go?
Shimmery Red - China Glaze Riverting
Black - Face of Australia Scream
White - Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear White On
Iridescent flakie polish - Essie As  Gold As It Gets
Top coat - Face of Australia Aussie Nights
Make-up Sponge
Thin nail art brush, pen or striper
Dotting tool

Start with a solid yellow manicure and leave to dry

Next we are going to create a sunsetish ombre
For a more comprehensive how to ombre click here --> teach me how to ombre

On your sponge line up the yellow, orange and shimmery red and carefully dab over the entire nail on a slight diagonal
Repeat until you are satisfied with the colour density

To add some butterfly magic add thin coat of your flakie polish and leave to dry completely

Now it's time to steady your hand and create some wings! I am using a thin nail brush which I found gave me surprising control and worked really well at producing smooth and organic lines

Start by creating a curved line towards the cuticle

Next draw 3-4 lines coming out from the curved line towards the tip

Join the lines together with small arcs

Fill in the top section of the nail with black

Once the black has dried take a medium dotting tool or toothpick dipped in white polish and scatter dots across the black tips

Add a super shiny top coat and your nails are ready to fly away!
