Mental Health Week

The 5th - 12th of October is Mental Health Week in Australia and this week the ABC channel has dedicated TV shows and events all in the effort to raise money and awareness for mental health. 

" To support Mental Health Week, ABC is going Mental As... Join us, show your support and donate to mental health research today."

What a fabulous effort! I am so impressed by the ABC and the incredible work so many people have contributed to the cause. Last night the variety show 'Crack Up' was screened as the finale of the week and it was a hoot and a half! Talent from a range of channels put on a fantastic and hilarious show and over $1,000,000 has been raised so far. The aim of this week has been to remove the negative stigma of mental health, to start conversations and support those who are experiencing ill-mental health. 

Surprise surprise I was inspired by the fab logo and design the ABC are using for their Mental As campaign that I wanted to create some nail art! So here we go...

You will need:

Base coat - Essence Studio Nails 24/7
Dark blue - O.P.I Eurso Euro
Magenta - piCture pOlish Watermelon
Light Orange - piCture pOlish Totes
Light Green - piCture pOlish Chillax
Silver - O.P.I Push and Shove
White - Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear White On
Top coat - Sally Hansen Insta-Dri
Dotting tools
Nail art brush

Start with a base coat and then paint all your nails 2 coats of your dark blue polish and leave it to dry

Time to joint the dots. We are going to use 2 sizes of dotting tools, quite a large one a significantly smaller one

Using the larger dotting tool place 3-4 large dots on each nail

Using the smaller dotting tool fill in the empty space with 5-6 smaller dots
Give these a few minutes to dry 

Go in with the same size dotting tools and go over the dots alternating between orange, green and magenta while leave a few dots white. 
I made all the dots white to start with so that the colours would really pop over the dark blue.

This part is optional - I decided to draw the ABC's logo on my thumb

***FUN FACT*** - The ABC's logo is a Lissajous curve... the more you know!

Using a nail art brush and white polish I drew 2 lines which I then joined by making 2 overlapping 'V' shapes. Give this a minute to dry and then go over the white with silver.  

Seal with a top coat and enjoy your Mental As nails!
