Time to put the pieces together!
For this design I feel it looks best with contrasting colours and finishes. I went with a coral neon and deep indigo gelly. I did my other hand with the same coral neon but swapped the indigo for a rich metallic silver
What I used/what you need:
- OPI Start to Finish Base and Top Coat
- China Glaze Neon & On & On
- Barry M Blue Grape
- Sally Hansen Celeb City
- Tape
- Large dotting tool
Start with full manicure including top coat and let it dry preferably over night so the tape doesn't ruin it. Go with your lighter colour for the base, just makes life easier.
Take 2 pieces of tape with wickedly straight edges and place over opposite corners of your nails.
For example top right and bottom left
Using your second colour of choice paint 2 coats fairly quickly over the uncovered sections of your nails. Don't fret if you paint over the tape, that's what it's there for. If you did a good job taping then the polish shouldn't bleed underneath however, if you did a crap taping job... start fretting
The key to getting a good tape job is press down firmly along your cuticle line and ensure there are no bubbles around the edges
After the second coat give it about 10 seconds to dry and then carefully remove the tape by pulling evenly into the centre
You should be left with a nice checker board
Here is the incredibly simple step to transform this standard checker board into a really intricate looking design
With the biggest dotting tool you have place 4 dots in each section of your nail the using the opposite colour of the base, just over the edge. Depending on the colour you may need 2 coats for your dots
While they are actually overlapping it looks like they are interlocking
Add a dazzling top coat and perhaps some
glitter if you're feeling whimsical and you're are done!
This insane nail art looks really complex but is remarkably simple, so let everyone else try and put the pieces together ;)
